I wrote this in mid-May just after the attack on GGG. I'd been wanting to write about what's going in Sri Lanka for a while but things were moving so fast that I couldn't find a place from which to ground my thoughts.

Was lying down, and the phrase 'The country is jacked' came to mind. It's a phrase that everyone understands - when a situation is 'jacked' you know it's not good.

What's crazy was I had also read somewhere that nurses were telling mothers of newborn infants to feed their children jackfruit because there was no baby food in the country.

It's a known thing that when you can't afford to buy rice and other staples you can resort to eating jackfruit. It's a testament to how bad things have gotten that the government had begun promoting the cultivation of jackfruit to counter food shortages.

So I took those two ideas and started writing about how Sri Lankans are all going to have to eat jackfruit together.

And even though some folks can afford to leave the country they won't because they have family here or family assets here. They cannot leave. So they're staying back to eat jackfruit with the people they love.

They're staying back and dealing with the 'jacked' situation.

There's multiple references in the song to things that only Sri Lankans would know the meaning of - the 6.9 million who voted for this government, the 225 seats of parliament, the man they shot down in Rambukkana, the need for tourist dollars etc.
